1b Demonstrating Knowledge of Students
Making an Adaptive PE class
Seeing a need for an adaptive class, I took it upon myself to give up one of my prep periods on Fridays to make accommodations for this student population. With the help of three aids this class became a reality. Every Friday for 30 minutes all the SPED kids come to the gym for an extra gym class. This class is not as structured as my other classes and has shown to be a success with the kids involved due to the exploration of equipment and free play. With various accommodations and different technique strategies for equipment this student population is thriving in this Friday class.
1e Designing Coherent Instruction
PE Word Wall
In my class, I have developed a discussion based routine of words about physical education and health to share with all grade levels. Before we get to our activity, my classes go over 4-5 words that are related to physical education and health. Included in those words is our bone of the week. I say the word and the students repeat the word back to me, then I ask if anyone knows what it means or can use it in a sentence. From there I give the definition of the word and have them trace the letter that the word starts with in the air. After the week is over I add the words to the word wall and place them under their first letter (Health would go under H). The wall is located in the far wall in my gym.
1f Designing Student Assessments
Teamwork Worksheet (Sketch-to-Stretch)
Before this sketch-to-stretch, all grade levels completed a week long unit on teamwork and team building activities. Through this assessment I wanted to see in their own opinion what teamwork is and how we see it in PE or everyday life. The results were fantastic. They had the chance to draw and tell me what teamwork was, write a few sentences, or they could do both and share with the class. I had examples from soccer to video games. The ideas that they were stirring up from this assessment was great to get a glimpse of how they viewed teamwork.
