2b Establishing a Culture for Learning
The 3 Rules of PE
With my rules clearly listed and reviewed daily it helps shape my classroom. It shows my expectations of the class and each individual student. This poster is located right next to the exit door where they line up to leave. I always ask if they are being kind safe movers. It helps remind them of the rules so that there is a consistency with my expectations for learning and achievement.
2c Managing Classroom Procedures
The "Huddle"
My Classroom is very structured and very predictable. When classes come to the gym they get stared immediately with their warm ups I have a four corner warm up that the students do for about 2 mins. After the time is up I blow my whistle and they come to the "huddle". Any time I say "huddle" my students know exactly where to go and what they should be doing. From there, I explain the terms of the week, bone of the week, announcements, and give an explanation of that days activity. The huddle has proven to be a success and a great classroom management strategy. We then transition to the activity, I split up the class into groups for them and then start the music to start the activity. After the class comes to a close I turn off the music and yell "huddle" and the students make their way to the huddle. We close class with closing questions on what we worked on that day, review the terms and bones, and then I pick two students that were being extra awesome that day to be the front and end of the line. Once they get to the door I check and talk to see if they get to clip up, say where they are at, or clip down on the behavior clip chart. once the teacher arrives I walk down the center of the two lines and make sure that all the student get a fist bump from me.
2d Managing Student Behavior
1.Pirate Behavior Clip Chart
2. Refocus Wall
1. The pirate behavior clip chart is a tool that I use to reinforce good behavior. My rules in my classroom are clearly defined and my students know what is expected of them when they come to PE. With this clip chart I hope to give the kids a choice on what they want to do the last day of the month. If they end up on PIRATE TREASURE by the end of the month they will have 3 choices of games. If they are on FULL SPEED AHEAD or ALL ABOARD MATES they will just do what was scheduled for that day. If they are on the red WALK THE PLANK they students will walk laps and not get to play games that day.
2. The refocus wall is a response to a misbehavior. Here my students refocus, think, and adjust behaviors. The first warning I talk to them about what they right behavior should be. The second I send them to the wall. After a few minutes, I walk over to talk to the student about the behavior and ask them questions about the behavior which include: why are you on the wall? How can we fix this behavior? What can I do to help you with this behavior? Are you refocused enough to return to play? Do you think that you can get your head back into the game? It is a nice reflect tool that I use for daily behavior problems that arise.
